a month agoThe rooms have both fans and aircon to tackle the heat. Free pasta, rice and cooking oil is available. I went to the Sunday breakfast and Tuesday Coffee club events and both had ample food and a friendly atmosphere. The bedding is fluffy and clean. Only downsides is that the reception is often unstaffed and there are not many toilets and showers to share. The rooms are only deep cleaned once per week. I recommend this hostel.

4 months agoThis is a great hostel! People are so friendly. Definitely not a party hostel which I loved but people were still down for a casual drink or to play card games. Great location! They have some activities on as well that don’t revolve only on drinking. Clean and comfortable beds too!

Family-like hostel with free pasta, rice, spices and quality food at events like coffee club, barbecue or breakfast. Big up to Hollie for her kindness and her availability at all times to help people feel at ease. Also thanks to these 2 handsome dudes doing the trivia on Saturdays, especially the French one.

6 months agoI stayed at the hostel from september 2023 til may 2024 and what a ride it was. First of all, Naomi and Claire are the loveliest hosts you can imagine in a hostel and always went over and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The hostel is clean and cozy, with a big and comfortable movie room (with multiple streaming services available), well equipped kitchen with free rice, pasta and oats. Breakfast on Sunday is a delight and a great way to meet fellow backpackers. Yes, it is close to Gilligan's but the noise wasn't too bad from my room. And hey, you cannot be more central in Cairns City. Walking to work or even any bars was less than 10 minutes for me. I had an absolute blast here, thanks to the efforts and dedication of Naomi and Claire... I highly recommend Wannastay if you want to make Cairns your home or when you're just visiting the city

a month agoThe location is great, and that's about the only thing. The rooms are alright. There is one toilet and one shower for the whole floor. No teracce, no hang out area. Very hard to meet people. No smoking area. You can smoke on the stairs outside but it's sketchy. No atmosphere, no vibe. The staff is never there, I've never seen them.
