3 weeks agoI spent 5 nights at this hostel. The atmosphere is quite historic and is a remimder of the Nunnery itself. However, the beds are very old and have noise because of the springs. The facilities are again old except the kitchen and the backyard, which are renovated.

4 months agoI had stayed for 3 nights and started in a 12 bedroom, but ended up moving to a 4. Great location and right next to tram stop. Nice common area and fun building. Courtyard looks like a great spot to hang, but unfortunately it was raining and cold while I was there. The gentleman at night reception is very friendly and helpful! (Sorry, I don’t know if I got his name.) Towels are provided and showers at great. The whole theme of it being a “Nunnery” is fun. Now for the downsides, it is on the pricier end for what you get. The rooms are pretty smelly and messy with clothes and stuff. I think long term guests start to get a little sloppy. It also seems to attract a very loud crowd, even with signs posted people would still be blow drying their hair, blasting speakers and just being noisy in the room at 11PM. The second night I had stayed a few folks had “moved in” and set up what looked like a homeless camp between all the bunks, complete with a TV and strobe lights. I ended up just having to pay extra at reception to move rooms after I explained what was going on. Not a gripe but would just recommend to add some tea towels to the kitchen so guests can dry dishes and clean up after themselves. I might stay again if I got a good deal. However outside of the location and the great staff, it is expensive for what you get at $40+ a night.

6 months agoI had a delightful little single bed room to myself. With a small heater. And TV. It was cozy and relaxing. I had a great sleep. And it is a beautiful building inside and out, being an ex nunnery. I really like this place. I think this is where I will stay every time I’m in Melbourne. If you’re keen to join in with the good times with all the 20 something year old backpackers, you indeed have that option too. Haha

6 months agoIf I could give 0 stars I would! The room did not look ANYTHING like the photos advertised! So overpriced, especially for a hostel. The staff were rude and gaslight you if you mention any problems. The hostel smelt of marijuana. The other guests were loud all night despite the noise policy. The room was filthy, the bedsheets had yellow stains all over them, the blankets were full of dust, we asked for new ones and were given the wrong size (too small) and these new "fresh" sheets were just as filthy. I was up most of the night struggling to breathe as I gave asthma and can not tolerate the dust. The TV did not work either. The heater did not work and having a single thin blanket is not enough in this cold weather. The shower. Oh my that shower was ridiculous! The hot water took 5 minutes to activate and only just drips out, like someone is slowly pouring water on you from a bottle. When you turn the cold water on it cancels out the hot water! So you can either freeze or boil. No in between.
