10 months agoLocation is key in this place. Light rail stop right next to the hostel which allows you to explore Goldie entirely. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It is quite a social hostel, but wouldn’t call it a party hostel. Most of the travellers staying were very nice and quiet. Free breakfast aswell, which makes it even better. Rooms were clean and overall, would stay here again 100%

7 months agoI arrived at this place at short notice and arranged a room through the owner. After extending my stay on two occasion the hostel advised me that I had to move to a long term stay and that i would need to pay my rent in CASH only. After staying in a mixed dorm for five days, I moved into a long-term stay. When I entered the long term accommodation, it had not been cleaned in a long time. I had to spend two hours cleaning the place to make it liveable. I understand this is a backpacker hostel but basic cleaning and bug spray are non existent.Upon entering the new long term accommodation, I came across two people. One of them was at Tennent in my room, and the other was not even a guest at the hotel. He was her boyfriend. She used to put a shoe between the door and sneak him into the living room. When I moved in she was not happy about this, she continued to sit in the main living room in her underwear, and on a number of occasions. When I walked in, she would be all flustered with her boyfriend, sitting in his underwear in my lounge room. This woman made me feel extremely uncomfortable. After asking her boyfriend, what his status was, he told me that he was not a resident at the hostel and not a resident. I advised him him as he was not a Resident of that particular unit, I didn’t want him coming round any more. His girlfriend went red in the face and constantly complained that I wasn’t cleaning enough, even though she Lived in filth for a significant amount of time and hadn’t washed in a few days.I went out one evening and returned home about 3 o’clock in the morning. The boyfriend was there in his underwear and his girlfriend, also sitting in the living room. When I went into my room I found a Cigarettes and a pouch of cigarettes with $125 missing money has also been taken from my wallet. When I let the night manager Stephano know this he moved me to a new room on my own. In the morning the girlfriend complained to her friend Crystal who was the day manager. When I asked Crystal her name on a number of occasions, she refused to reveal it. She also refused to advise what her employment status was at the hostel. She asked Me on a number of occasions why I wanted her name? I asked her to call the owner on several occasions, and she declined this request. When I told Crystal I would be attending the Gold Coast police station she told me to do what i wanted. When I returned later I found the water pipe and my prescription medicine on my window sill not underneath the kitchen table. When i was told Crystal this she told me to pack my bag. I to pack my bags and leave as she would be calling the police. I advised her that she had no right to call the police and the police couldn’t do anything because I haven’t done anything illegal or unlawful.Crystal is one of the most rude individuals you will ever deal with. She talks over the top of you, lies consistently And when I asked her to speak to the owner, she said she didn’t have the owners number. I told her due to the circumstances I would be attending surfers Paradise, police station. When I arrived at the police station, the police officer told me that I had to call the police assistance line and file an official report. I went to the Gold Coast police station and they advised me that Crystal wanted me removed from the Property. When I asked why they advised that they didn’t have to disclose to me why I was being kicked out other than the manager on duty Crystal wanted me out. This is a breach of law as I am in a long-term accommodation and I can’t be kicked out at short notice unless I’ve done something illegal or unlawful. When I returned to the hostel in a police patrol car Crystal looked ecstatic, as if she had won the lotto. I was told to take my bags and leave, even though I had paid four days in advance and had two days left. When the police were escorting me off the hostel, a number of staff were watching and some were even filming. The hostel will rob you blind and deny you your basic legal rights. Buyer beware.

a month agoMade 20 of us pay a $100 bond ($2000), and didn’t give back some of our’s because they claim not everyone payed their bond. Everyone payed. A $2000 bond for a place like that is unheard of also.
