4 weeks agoAvoid this place at all costs! Mad Monkey in Sydney was by far the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The entire building is INFESTED with cockroaches — in the kitchen, the showers, the cinema room, and even the bedrooms. It’s absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. As for the staff, they are nothing but two-faced and hypocritical. They pretend to be kind, helpful, and welcoming, but as soon as they get the chance, they will stab you in the back. They will pressure you into paying if you find their decision unfair, using intimidation tactics to make sure they get their money. Their behavior is downright manipulative and dishonest. This hostel is a nightmare and should be avoided at all costs. There are plenty of better options nearby where you’ll actually feel comfortable and respected. Save yourself the stress and frustration — don’t waste your time or money on this place.

2 weeks agoVery good location, 5min from a train station. Very friendly staff, especially Emma! The kitchen was not always clean but for a hostel ok. I would definitely recommend!

3 months agoBest Hostel in Sydney! Came here for the first time and I’ve met so many young backpackers. The hostel itself has a young and active vibe, they’re always planning new fun activities, the staff is very helpful and the location is great, with restaurants, bars, grocery stores, bus and train stations in the surroundings!

a month agoAs solo female traveler, I would definitely not choose this hostel, as I encountered several uncomfortable situations. The building has a rat and cockroach infestation, they are EVERYWHERE. Not only is it unsanitary and disgusting to find them in the kitchen (Also in my food, I had to throw everything away and they did not reimburse it) but they are also found under your bed/pillow and in the bathroom. And let’s not talk about the bathrooms. I don’t have any privacy and they are dirty all the time. Moreover, the staff here are very rude. They came into our room more than once without announcing themselves in the middle of the night, disrupting us with no reason. To make everything worse, there’s a lot of theft in this hostel. Don’t trust to let ANYTHING without supervision for more than 2 minutes because someone will take it away, and the hostel won’t do anything for you.
